Cloth-backed reproduction (medium size) from the Old Folding Maps of Crichley’s “New Plan of London improved to 1832” with more hand-colouring than found on most similar maps of the capital: main roads, parks and green spaces, administrative and legal boundaries and, of course, the Thames. Coverage extends from Shepherd’s Bush and Hammersmith to the Isle of Dogs and Lea River, and north/south from Regent’s Park and Hoxton to Chelsea and Vauxhall Bridge. Colouring added to the original engraving highlights main roads, shows the boundaries of the City of London, Westminster and Southwark, plus the rules of the Kings Bench Prison, Fleet Prison and the extent of the Clink Liberty.This reproduction was taken from what used to be called a “cloth-dissected” map, made when the map itself was cut into sections and each section then individually pasted onto an overall cloth backing for the whole map. In this version the whole map is backed onto cloth in one piece but the gaps between the sections have been reproduced in the printing to preserve the style and the feeling of the original.
