Great Britain: The Rialto. Very Good. 2001. First Edition. Soft Cover. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" Tall Octavo 0952744430 Paperback Paperback. Scarberry Hill. Couple of slight marks to back cover. 'One morning when I was six years old I woke up and could not hear a thing. My mother started writing me notes such as 'Making a cup of tea for Daddy'. She started writing me little letters and hiding them in the cleft of a tree. At school I became isolated, and was bullied by teachers and children. My reading, with this I had previously struggled, improved. I made do with my own company and contemplated things and books. I started to write poems' (Josephing Dickinson, The Rialto. No. 49). 'Josephine Dickinson's poems are exceptionally original. Here is a vision edged with mystery and rendered with arresting, occasionally, breathaking craft. She bears, with no small authority, an air of independence reminiscent of Emily Dickinson' (Michael Donaghy). 77 pp. (We carry a wide selection of titles in The Arts, Theology, History, Politics, Social and Physical Sciences. academic and scholarly books and Modern First Editions, Reference books ,and all types of Academic Literature.) .

Silence Fell marks the American debut of an extraordinary poet from the remote north of England. The poems are set on a sheep farm in the northern mountains and tell the story - in the form of a modern shepherd's calendar - of Josephine Dickinson's marriage to a Cumbrian sheep farmer, a man more than twice her age, and their life together, until his death in 2004.During a reading tour in England, Galway Kinnell was introduced to Josephine Dickinson's work. Her poems made such an impression on him that he passed the books on to his publisher and wrote a foreword for her American debut.
