In dem standigen Personal des Instituts ist also eine Verande rung nicht zu verzeichnen. Dagegen wechselten die Volontàre. Es schied am 1. Oktober 1912 aus Dr. Hermann Kalbfuss aus Darmstadt, der seit dem Friihfahr 1910 als Volontàr beim Institut tatig gewesen ist und sich in der Hauptsache mit der Erforschung der Archive und Bibliotheken Oberitaliens vorzuglich der Emilia, der Lombardei und Piemonts, befasst hat, woruber unten noch ge nauer zu berichten sein wird. Nach Vollenlung dieser Arbeiten trat er in den Dienst der Gesellschaft fur Frankische Geschichte uber. Nur kurze Zeit war am Institut als Volontàr tatig Dr. Karl birch-hirschfeld aus Leipzig, der am 1. April 1912 bei uns eintrat und sich kunsthistorischen Studien widmete; er verliess uns aber bereits im Dezember 1912, um eine Stelle bei der internatio nalen Ausstellung fur Buchgewerbe und Graphik in Leipzig anzu nehmen.
