Eilharts von Oberg Tristrant und Isalde ist die einzige Version des Stoffes im 12. Jahrhundert, die die vollständige Geschichte bringt. Das ganze Mittelalter hindurch war im deutschsprachigen Raum in erster Linie Eilharts Text als nicht-fragmentarische Version (auch als Prosaauflösung) bekannt. Sogar Richard Wagner spielt auf den Tristrant am Schluss der Götterdämmerung an. Lange Zeit dominierte die Beschäftigung mit Gottfrieds von Straßburg Tristant die Forschung, mittlerweile steht aber der Tristant auch wieder stärker im wissenschaftlichen Fokus, sodass der Text als eigenständige, kultur- und literaturwissenschaftlich bedeutsame Ausgestaltung des Stoffes interpretiert wird. Die vorliegende Ausgabe bringt den frühneuhochdeutschen Text ediert nach der Heidelberger Handschrift (Cpg 346), die wohl der Version Eilharts am nächsten steht, sowie die erste neuhochdeutsche Übersetzung dieses Überlieferungszeugen sowie einen Kommentar. Der Kommentar erschließt zum einen den Text (auch für Studierende) und liefert Interpretationsangebote schwieriger Stellen, zum anderen zeigt er Parallelen zu den altfranzösischen Versionen Thomas' d'Angleterre und Bérouls als auch die Abweichungen zu diesen Texten auf. 24.0 x 17.0 cm, Buch.
