A new enlarged edition of the book in three languages, Icelandic, Danish and English with rhymes featuring the special Icelandic Christmas tradition about the thirteen Christmas lads or Christmas trolls (jolasveinar), sons of the ogress Greela (Gryla) and her mate Ragamuffin (Leppaludi). According to this tradition, unique for Iceland, the thirteen Christmas lads arrive, one a day, from December 12th through December 24th, leaving again, one at a time, starting on Christmas day, December 25th, the last one departing on Epiphany 6th of January. The book, printed in full color, is illustrated with embroidered pictures in actual size, designed and executed by the author. The embroidery is worked in Icelandic wool with the old cross stitch (long armed cross stitch) commonly found on, for instance Icelandic eighteenth century bed covers. The technique is explained, in Icelandic and English, with diagrams, in the back of the book. In this new (4th) edition of the book verses and illustration have been added to the main text, as well as separate charts for embroidering each of the thirteen Christmas Lads. Beside, the book contains a four page illustrated presentation of the special embroidered Icelandic Christmas Calendar - Christmas lads Calendar - designed by the author. The calendar, finished size ab. 29.5 x 22.5 cm and worked in the same technique as the book illustrations, features the thirteen Christmas Lads, with the "count down" to Christmas starting on December 12th when the first lad arrives. Kits containing chart, color illustration, materials, and instructions with stitch diagrams, are available from the designer.
