Christos Vallis, the father, is born in 1910 in a village in Epirus. Soon widowed, he decides to start a business of his own, setting up a network of brothels -or rather, houses of love- where the services offered are marked by quality and imagination. Slowly but surely, in an effort to defend himself, Christos turns to the arts, as they are the only thing which can verify his theory and validate his methods of defence in the face of the depersonalisation of sexual expression. Naturally, Christos names his son, Aris, as his successor. However, when Aris takes over, he will discover that the rules of the game have changed.
