The World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) believes that tourism is expected to contribute 8.6 per cent (INR 5,532.5bn or US$ 117.9bn) to the gross domestic product (GDP) in 2010 and 9.0% (INR18,543.8bn or US$ 330.1bn) by 2020. Business travel has increased faster than leisure travel, with considerable adverse facts of deregulation, Gulf War and other recessionary periods. The infrastructure development, technological advancement and pulse of new business search have favoured the business interaction between developed and developing countries. The increased opportunities for companies to set up shop in new countries have led to a spate of mergers, acquisitions, strategic alliances and networks over borders.
