Catalogue of the exhibition held at Jagiellonian University Museum, Collegium Maius, July-September 2011, part of the Milosz Year 2011 program. 30 June 2011 marked the 100th anniversary of the birth of Czeslaw Milosz. To celebrate the Milosz Year, an exhibition devoted to the Noble Prize Winner was organized by the Jagiellonian University Museum in cooperation with the Wojciech Weiss Museum Foundation. The exhibition featured a series of portrait photographs taken by Christian Leprette during one of Milosz's lectures in comparative literature delivered at Harvard University in 1982. The author of the photographs was an architect and a photographer, a Frenchman, whose mother was of Polish origin. The photographs featured in the catalogue capture the many facial expressions of the great poet. At times his face looks concentrated, and at times grotesquely menacing, resembling a face of a samurai - a Polish samurai, who has managed to avoid captivity. The two hour-long photographic session, during which Christian Leprette was both an artist and a listener, was noncommittal in its character. The pictures reflect the play of coincidence and surprise but also the acceptance of the world as it is: of both its beauty and disfigurement. Taschenbuch, Wydanie: 1.
