The texts presented here constitute the harvest of the conference Ethnic Sources of Traditional Musical Cultures in Central-Estern Europe. Ecclesiatical and Folk Transmission, organised by the Historical, Social and Philosophical Sciences section (Section II) of the Warsaw Learned Society (TNW). The conference was held on 7-9 December 2006 in the Round Table Hall of Staszic Palace in Warsaw. The idea of the gathering was to exchange views on the relations between folk musical cultures and ecclesiastical musical traditions- Orthodox, Catholic and Protestant. Also manifest were strands of ethnomusicologico-anthropological research. The leading motif which emerges from this publication is that of music as a value connecting religious confessions and standing above the disintegration of the world into the spheres of the sacred and the profane. This anthology contributes to the aesthetic current in general musicology, containing reflections on the song-prayer, wich continues to have a considerable social range and cultural standing in Central-Eastern Europe.
