A motto for photography, Strömholm claimed, should be to upset the old beaten track of darkroom fanaticism, to make Swedish photographers realize the subordinate importance of technical aspects when compared to problems within the picture frame itself.1 "General photographic knowledge among professionals is alarmingly scarce, and the atmosphere is stuffy,"Strömholm claimed. "Swedish photographers aren `t keeping up with what`s going on in world photography, and don `t even know the names of their most important contemporary colleagues abroad".
