The increasing rigidity of my face »please smile more often« was one symptom, and the general slowdown of my actions, which I attributed to my calm and introverted mind, was another. Shortly before receiving my disability pension I talked to an elderly gentleman about my fear of the future and he said to me: »You are looking forward to golden times.« I asked him if he meant it ironically, but he was fully serious. Today I know that he was right, because I received seven years of working time as a gift. Time, I was able to spend with my dear wife. Time, I was allowed to use for my private targets. Parkinson was never my friend and it will never be, it annoys me too much for that, but I do owe one of the best times of my life to it. I have not resigned to the illness and I will not give up so fast. The struggle continues, hour by hour, day by day, as long as my shuffling feet will carry me.
