Evaluation of the management effectiveness in protected areas has been growing as one of the essential aspects in the field of protected area management. With this regard, this study was undertaken to test the evaluation methodology and indicators for effective management in Chitwan National Park (CNP)- Nepal's first protected area which was established in 1973. This study was carried out by applying De Faria methodology, focusing on eight aspects, namely, biogeographic characteristics, threats, legislation and policy, management planning, administration, management program, legal uses and illegal uses. However, the evaluation is a broad area and can be carried out as far as possible as per the need and resource availability. The study was done through SWOT analysis, a group discussion and interviews. This study covers elements such as context, planning, input, process and outputs of the IUCN-WCPA framework. It was found through this study that there are significant biogeographical resources and satisfactory legislation and policy. However, there are several threats which need immediate attention so as to conserve these resources for the long term.
