nach der Bestellung gedruckt Neuware -The changes in color, chemical and mechanical properties of oil heat treated Acacia mangium investigated. The sapwood and heartwood of Acacia mangium underwent hot oil treatment using crude oil at temperatures of 180oC, 200oC and 220oC for 30, 60 and 90 minutes. The color changes in wood were measured using Chroma-meter and presented in a change in lightness and chroma and total color differences. The chemical compositions conducted by using TAPPI standard for holocellulose, ¿-cellulose, hemicellulose, Klason lignin and extractives. The static bending which is Modulus of Rupture and Modulus of Elasticity of Acacia mangium determines the mechanical properties. The results showed that oil-heat treatment reduced the lightness of the wood and darkened the wood. The holocellulose, ¿-cellulose, hemicellulose and extractives content decreased with treatment, but Klason lignin composition in the wood increased. The strength of the wood slightly reduced after oil-heat treatment. The relationship between wood properties and treatment variables determined by ANOVA test and resulted show that temperature is one of the main variables to affect the properties of treated wood.
