Language: English. Brand new Book. The Earth 2075 series presents life as it will probably be in that year. All books in the series are novellas and are perhaps a third to half the length of a typical novel. The action of a full novel has been compressed and the books are intended for busy folks with only a few hours to read. The books present likely technologies of the future. There is no time travel or laser pistols. Just real-life situations with advanced technology. Each book presents new technology and addresses current problems and how they are likely to evolve.Galilei is book 1 and presents the adventures of Steven Kimbrel an astrophysicist who dreams of being the task manager for the Galilei ORP (Oxidation-Reduction Potential) space telescope. Galilei is the cutting edge of the exploration for life beyond earth. Oxygen isn't required to sustain life, of course. In fact, as with all planets, earth itself once had an atmosphere devoid of it. Oxygen is given off as a waste from photosynthetic organisms. In most cases, these organisms are the forerunners to higher life forms. The photosynthetic organisms enrich the atmosphere with oxygen. This enables higher organisms to adapt and thrive on not only the waste oxygen, but the organisms themselves as a food source. Galilei measures the ORP of a planet's atmosphere and infers the presence of oxygen from it. The oxygen indicates the presence of photosynthetic life, and thereby, the potential for higher organisms that would be sustained by them.Steven evolves from a geeky, OCD, outcast into a leader who calls the shots and refuses to accept defeat. He finds himself in some very surprising situations and is continually reminded that real life can be far different from what his image of the world was. Galilei is in a pod on the massive ISS (International Space Station). Life on ISS is far different from what he expects and he struggles to adapt. Galilei cost $200 billion to construct. Could this money have been put to better use? Or does raw research provide justifiable benefits?
