Visions, Volume 2 begins with a contemporary interpretation of one of the fundamental teachings of Buddhism: The Four Noble Truths by Peter Della Santina. This explanation is based on the Dhammachakkappavattana Sutta, which had as its subjects, the four noble truths and the middle way. The Buddha gave this first discourse to five ascetics at the Deer Park in Sarnath, Varanasi. Peter follows the medical procedure in demonstrating the close correspondence between disease, diagnose, cure and treatment with the noble truths of suffering, cause, cessation and the path. Further, he points that within the four noble truths, how the cause and result relationship should be understood. He then explains the truth of suffering in details with physical and mental sufferings and how the truth of cause is the ignorance from where craving, hatred and other emotion afflictions are grown. The truth of nirvana is an unconditioned state of supreme peace, free from suffering which can be personally experienced. The truth of path is eightfold paths included in the way of morality, way of mental development (meditation) and way of wisdom, which should be practiced in the middle way free from the extremes of indulgence and deprivation. The Production of Faith is a teaching given by Khenpo Appey Rinpoche and translated by Ngawang Samten. Rinpoche teaches the practical manner of producing the faith in the Buddhist teachings by taking refuge, which is explained in details with four categories of the nature of refuge, the differentiation of refuge, the rules of refuge and the benefits of refuge. The Enlightenment Thought is also a teaching given by Khenpo Appey Rinpoche and translated by Ngawang Samten. Rinpoche defines the enlightenment thought and explains Hinayana enlightenment thought in brief and Mahayana enlightenment thought in details. In The Preliminary Practice, Peter Della Santina explains in brief, the general preliminaries starting from the taking refuge upped the cultivation of one pointedness and penetrative insight; and in details, the specific preliminaries of refuge, confession, preceptor yoga and mandala offering. In The Nature of the Mind, His Holiness Sakya Trizin gives the essential pointing instruction of realizing the nature of mind. Here his Holiness explains that our own positive and negative actions are the cause of good and bad experiences. In addition, negative actions are due to ignorance of seeing the true nature of the mind. Instead we cling to a self without any logical reasons which is the root of all negativity's and sufferings. If we carefully examine, we cannot find that self in body, mind and others. To free completely from the samsara, we need to realize the true nature of all phenomena and particularly of the mind. With the preliminary practices of merit accumulation and through concentration and insight wisdom, one will see the true nature of mind, which is union of clarity and emptiness. The Buddhist Essence Teaching: An interview with Sakya Pandita is a teaching given in response to the questions of Nyimo Gomchen. This is translated from Tibetan into English by Geshe Tashi Namgyal and Allan B. Wallace. In this interview, Sakya Pandita gives very critical answers to clarify the questions faced by a yogi from Nyimo regarding different practice. The following four songs are composed by Jestun Rinpoche Dragpa Gyaltsen and translated from Tibetan into English by Acharya Migmar Tseten and Kunga Namdol. The Song given to Yeshi Dorjee begins with enumeration of twelve necessities required for entering into the practice of Vajrayana Dharma, i.e. a Guru, ripening abhisheka, samaya vows, hearing, upadeshas, diligence, a solitary place, conducive circumstances, friends, abandoning disharmonious conditions, forsaking laziness and emphasizing practice. The Song of Inquiring about Good Health includes three short pieces. The first one is about the difficulties of maintaining health and achieving liberat, Paperback, Label: Manjushri Press,US, Manjushri Press,US, Product group: Book, Published: 2000-07-16, Studio: Manjushri Press,US, Sales rank: 14522448.
