Paperback. 48 pages. Dimensions: 11.0in. x 8.5in. x 0.1in.Written and drawn by Danny Nichols with a powerful foreword by the legendary Alan Moore. . A graphic novel about the dark side of the British unemployment system. A powerful story based on true reflections that have seen the suffering and death of many thousands in the UK because of being forced into employment when unwell, either mentally orand physically. Although disturbing in places it is also an entertaining and very funny account of Rufus Higgins, a man who is just a head after being after being maimed during war, and his struggle for survival and dignity in a country that no longer shows mercy to the sick and disabled. This subject incensed the author Danny Nichols since learning that people who were very vulnerable in society were getting their disability benefits stopped and they were being forced back into employment even though they were not in a fit position to do so. . . a n obsession that the Conservative government in Britain seem to have until the present day (take it out on the poor) this book was created with them in mind, the genuine cases of unwell individuals who do not have the privileges that the elite rulers have, high earnings, good connections etc. The author wasis tired of the under classs being treated like rubbish and decided to fight back a bit, this book was not put together for the money, its creation came about by anger and frustration. Also there are other aspects to the unemployment system in the UK that are very undesirable, people out of work are constantly harassed to the point of despair when they sign on, if they do not apply for enough jobs or comply in the smallest way with jobcentre rules they are sanctioned a sanction is punishment of having your unemployment money stopped for a period of time which throws the already financially challenged person into deeper stress and anxiety and deep poverty, this caused them to go cold and hungry and seek out food banks these are not good circumstances for job hunting, its a bit like being thrown into a debtors prison, while youre banged up in there you can hardly do anything about your situation! Also the job centres do very little to actually find anyone work, they seem to be the governments punishment centre for the lowly. Most of us probably think; poor people, hope they get over it and things improve for them We may be comfortable in our lives today but tomorrow may bring different circumstances, who knows if WE may need to rely on this unemployment centre one day! It deserves to be called out for its vile lack of mercy to those in need, maybe the policies could change in the future but even so Creeps and Underdogs is a testament to those that have died, they should never be forgotten. The book is also supposed to be an entertaining ride too, its very funny in places, the humour reminiscent of Only Fools And Horses and uses sarcasm to good form. It also touches on other areas of culture and is a great combination of humour and making serious observations on society. Some of it is even autobiographical (but youll have to guess which bits!) And anyone that spots a Francis Bacon painting is really paying attention! The author is a fan of comic books but also fine art and is conflicted with the desire to do good basic drawings in a cartoon form or to do more detailed and sketchy work. Alan Moore also got involved when he was approached by the author to write a foreword. As he also is outraged at the treatment of the physically and socially impaired in our communities. A lot of Alan Moores stories have dealt with real social issues and wider political ramifications. Some political leaders have been named in the book but this was reluctant on the part of the author as he did not wish to sully his graphic novel with their monickers as it also gives them possible notoriety. ATOS are the bad gu This item ships from multiple locations. Your book may arrive from Roseburg,OR, La Vergne,TN.
