The book was subsequently published in 1996 and reprinted by Giving and Sharing, a non-profit organization Nickels founded in 1978. That printed version is still being sold, and oftentimes at exorbitant prices. Mr. Nickels no doubt views such business practices as repugnant, just as I do. In order to counter this price-gouging trend with regard to Andrew Dugger's popular study guide, I have decided to publish this updated edition. Richard Nickels has also written and published numerous other articles and books for the Giving & Sharing Bookstore, a non-profit mail order library that serves Christians around the world. His publications include "Biblical Health and Healing", "Biblical Marriage and Family", "Six Papers on the History of the Church of God", "Biblical Holy Days", "Biblical Law", "Biblical Doctrine", and many more. This book is now in the public domain. I decided to make some needed formatting changes and reorder the chapters to enhance the clarity and content of the text. I have divided the study text into sixteen separate lessons, each one of which should adequately fill an hourly Bible study/discussion session. In keeping with Andrew Dugger’s time-tested format, the sequencing of the original subject matter was unaltered. Some additional editing was also needed. The Topical Index found at the end of the previous edition was essentially a duplicated rearrangement of the Table of Contents, and for that reason it has been deleted. This eighth edition was designed to enhance the flow of the original text and has been reorganized in a more natural way that should be more familiar to modern readers than any previous editions. Numerous grammatical errors and a few noted typos have also been corrected. Nevertheless, the original text that was included in the 1996 edition has essentially remained unchanged, except when absolutely essential. Case in point, the previous edition references the Topical Index at the end of the book in at least two instances. That Topical Index was not included in this eighth edition for the reason stated above. Those references now refer the reader to the appropriate lesson listed in the revised Table of Contents. In 1920, the author used the common vernacular of his day. Some of the terms and expressions in use at that time are no longer considered politically correct. For example, when referring to people of African descent, he used the outdated expression, "the colored man", which is now regarded as an offensive idiom by many Americans. Despite how such expressions may now be viewed when written or verbalized in our 21st century, I have not made any changes merely to "modernize" the language commonly used in that time period. "The Bible Home Instructor" was scholarly appropriate for comparable literature written in the early twentieth century. What Andrew Dugger wrote in this study guide remains relevant for Christians today, but every reader must bear in mind the antiquity of the original text. It was written and published almost a century ago -- two and a half decades before the discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls. Perhaps it's time to let the light of God's truth shine into your life.
