Description of Enneanalysis™ WHO Who are we? Both authors have degrees in Psychology. Both searched for a psychology that would be theoretically solid and practically helpful in our personal life and counseling: applicable to the best, the normal, and the worst in personality. They found it in the Enneagram. Because this work is about self-analysis in terms of the Enneagram, the authors call it, “Enneanalysis™.ö WHAT What´s the book about? Different works on the Enneagram emphasize particular aspects. Some books simply attend to the nine personality types, others to the subtypes, others to the centers, others to the instincts, and others to the spirituality. Some books concentrate simply on the psychology and others focus on spirituality. This book is intended to be comprehensive, including all the above and more. In addition, it helps you understand how your personality type affects many key areas of your life: your self with its thinking, feelings, and behavior; your relationships to self and others; your adaptation to the world; and your psychological and spiritual drives. Although it respects traditional Enneagram concepts, it breaks new ground in presenting the Enneagram in a creative, innovative manner. Something old, something new. WHY The purpose of this book is to present the Enneagram (Pronounced ANY-A-GRAM, it comes from two Greek words, Ennea meaning nine, and gramma meaning point) system of nine personality types with their respective centers and instincts. There are some extra “goodiesö that make this book attractive: You have the opportunity to take The Enneagram Inventory to discover your particular personality pattern. It is used to self-diagnose one´s dominant personality type, preferred center, and major instinct. This Inventory facilitates the process of self-diagnosis by enabling people to systematically arrive at their unique, individual type. You may be pleasantly surprised to discover how much one Inventory reveals about the chiaroscuro of your personality, its strengths and shadows. You are invited to use the Inventory to appreciate who you are, how you process your experiences, and why you act the way you do. Most of all, you are invited to acknowledge and accept the rich diversity among personalities. The Appendices contain a wealth of essential ideas: A summary of basic Enneagram concepts, a Chart of Enneatypes, and a Table of cognitive, affective, and effective fixations, and a precis of similarities and differences among the nine types. The Enneagram system proved to be very useful for the authors who use it for personal self-help, counseling, human resource development, business workshops, organizational consultation, and spiritual guidance. The Enneagram is emerging as a tool of choice in different cultures. The authors have distributed their works around the world–North and South America, Europe, Japan, Singapore, South Africa, and India. They have applied it to myriad fields: counseling, education, organizational and professional development, and spirituality. The authors have published over eighty works on the Enneagram for business, spirituality, and counseling. Five of their Enneagram works have been published by Jossey-Bass/Pfeiffer, a division of Simon and Schuster. Enneanalysis™ is divided into two parts: General Enneanalysis™, Part One, lays the groundwork for understanding the Enneagram system by establishing the importance of personality types and their relationships, discovering your unique personality, uncovering your personal “computerö centers, discerning the instincts which motivate you, unlocking the secrets of the Enneagram by trianalysis, and journeying the two ways of truth and seeming, virtue and passion. Out of Enneagram psychology flows a solid, personal ethics. The three centers are analyzed in terms of symbols, localization, name, correspondence to instinct, focus (and fixations), function, and boundaries. In addition, the strengths and limitations of the three instincts are described, and then they are analyzed into the categories of localization, context, focus, distortion, function, drive, activity, subject, energy, concern, question, and emotion. Expansion of Awareness from Self to Others to the World is presented. Focus and Fixations. Essence or the essential self with its transpersonal characteristics is depicted as the source and ground of the personality types, centers, and instincts. Enneagram consciousness is analyzed into the three phases of natural, critical, and reconstructive. Three principles provide the dynamic thrust of Enneagram consciousness: (1) Affirmation of the positive way, (2) opposition of the negative way, and (3) the synthesis of being through the threefold process of preservation, annulment, and elevation. Traditional Enneagram concepts are incorporated into the arrows of complementarity, expanding wings of reconstruction, and the integration of dominant types and wings. Specialized Enneanalysis™, Part Two, involves a comparative analysis of each of the nine personality type in three stages--centered, peripheral, and uncentered (personality disorder) in terms of cognition, affectivity, effectivity, belief, self-image, defense mechanism, interiority, and system. Each of the nine personality types is described by the three subtypes of self-preservation, social, and adaptive, resulting in twenty-seven combinations. Trianalysis reveals the strengths and limitations of the three centers in processing experience. Many case studies of the nine personality types are presented along with strategies for self-enneanalysis. Therapeutic approaches involving the three centers are outlined for each type. A summary of essential Enneagram ideas is found in Appendix III. A unique feature of Enneanalysis™ is the section on centering spirituality. After providing a framework of human nature in the light of organism, psyche, and spirit, three forms spirituality and meditation are presented. Practical meditation exercises are described in order to elicit participation in the material on the part of the reader. There is something in Enneanalysis™ for every type of person: For Ones, Enneanalysis™ is comprehensive and correct! For Twos, it is personally meaningful and helpful! For Threes, it is useful and efficient! For Fours, it is creative and unique! For Fives, it is insightful and thought-provoking! For Sixes, it is reliable and reassuring! For Sevens, it is exciting and enjoyable! For Eights, it is challenging and forceful! For Nines, Enneanalysis™ is harmonious and stabilizing, Plastic Comb, Label: Lifewings, Ltd. Lifewings, Ltd.
