Hardback. The Strathfield massacre was a shooting rampage in Sydney, Australia on Saturday, 17 August 1991. The shooter was Wade Frankum, who killed himself as police arrived at the scene. The incident left eight dead and six wounded. In this publication Dr. Rod Milton weaves the profile of a man who, 'without severe mental disorder or previous evidence of severe aggression', committed mass murder. Carefully charting Wade Frankum's growth to adulthood, looking at family, peer group and sexual relationships, the author concludes that exposure to violently stimulating material by Frankum's vulnerable personality is central to an understanding of the man's extreme action. Part I of this book represents Dr. Milton's report to the New South Wales Coroner, and was made public at the time of the hearing in November of 1991. The Report also comprises the Annexure, which forms Part II and contains records of interview with Wade Frankum's family, relations, friends and acquaintances; extracts from the clinical notes of doctors who saw Frankum; notes taken on an inspection of the Frankum family home; and examples of Wade Frankum's own writings. Many of the statements which appear in the Report are taken directly from the Records of Interview that form part of the Annexure. Part III is a short chronology of the life of Wade Frankum, and in Part IV the reader will find reproduced in original form, examples of Frankum's drawings, projects and photographs.
