(130) pp. From the introduction: "This is the second of three bibliographies which together will attempt to list all published biographies of individual British women living from the late Eighteenth Century until the end of the First World War. The intention is to show, for the first time, not only the work already done in this important field, but the gaps still to be filled. The term "biography" is taken to mean any memoirs, autobiographies, "lives and letters", Journals, diaries, obituaries or funeral sermons in book or pamphlet form concerning the lives of individual British women. Journal articles have been excluded, as have introductory memoirs to volumes of poetry, fiction, prose, sermons or travel, as these would have lengthened the bibliography many times. The women in this volume should Ideally have been born and have died within the reign of Queen Victoria (1837-1901), but some flexibility has been used if it is thought, however subjectively, that the significant part of the subject's life was lived within this period. ... The present writer's attempt to designate the "life" of a biographee in a few words is necessarily subjective... Very Good.
