The Tregeare Estate, once one of the largest in Cornwall, belonged from the 17th Century to the 19th Century to the Baron family, one member of whom made a fortune in the City of London. In 1790 his money made helped Jasper Baron to build the present stunning white Palladian Tregeare House. Early in the 19th century the Tregeare and London Estates passed by marriage to the well known family of Lethbridge, several of whom were personally invoved at this time in the founding of Australia. ''In Sundry Places" tells the story of these two families and the involvement of the Lethbridges of Tregeare with Philip Gidley King, Governor of New South Wales and his family.
