I remember waking up after my first surgery, trying to stand up but projectile vomiting constantly. I've already been fasting for 2 days, so the fact I was still losing fluid was alarming. More alarming, my blood cell count was lower than that of a newborn baby. There was an 8% chance I needed a blood transfusion, and I was in that 8%. More so, the transfusions weren't helping. One transfusion, then another, then part way through another I remember the doctor on my floor calling for an emergency surgery. It was Saturday night, so they had to call all the surgeons in. The porter was taking too long to come get me, so the doctor pushed my bed, kicking doors open with her feet, rushing me into surgery. The nurse told me she was praying for me. My parents were crying. I was brought into the cold surgery room, now with about 7 different hoses (IVs and such) hooked to my body. Last thing I remember was asking the surgeons to please save me. I remember waking up the next day to crying people, the person next to me didn't make it. My name is Josh MacDonald, I'm 24 years old and this is how I battle Crohn's disease.
