From the Introduction: The Answer to Human Prayers If you turn to the teachings of the principal religions--Buddhist, Christian, Hindu, and others--you will find a common prophecy: An All-Surpassing God-Man will come, either as a supreme Avatar, or the final Prophet, or the Enlightened One. In many traditions, it is said this Spiritual Deliverer will appear during the darkest times, when humanity has lost its connection to God, Wisdom, and Truth. Among Buddhists are those who call that Expected One "Maitreya"; among Hindus, the "Kalki Avatar"; among Christians, the "second coming"; among Jews, the "Messiah". What is common among these great religious traditions is their promise of a future Bringer of Light, one who will restore us to our purpose in both the natural and Spiritual orders.
