And before the revolution of A.century, the whole island of Manhattan, covered with inhabitants and replenished with a dense population, will constitute one vast city. Hen a man living in New York State, about a hundred years ago, wished to travel in any direction, he went by some river and lake route as much as he could, riding in a canoe or boat.
