Rostral and Pineal Plates. --These elements cannot be identified in the present specimen. 1 Mandible. --Both halves of the mandible are represented: one lacks the symphyseal margin but is otherwise well preserved; the other, although very imperfect, exhibits in a satisfactory way the region of the symphysis. In PI. VI, fig. 36, is shown the visceral surface of the left ramus of the mandible. In general this element suggests closely that in Stenosteus, but differs from it in the presence of fewer teeth. These, moreover, are restricted to the anterior quarter of this plate: they are relatively smaller in size, and disposed more regularly. As in the former genus the striature of the plate focuses in the anterior region at some distance back of the symphyseal region. The symphyseal rim of the opposite half of the mandible, figured in PI. VI, fig. 37, suggests somewhat the conditions of Diplognathw. At the region of the symphysis the jaw tapers abruptly, bearing here on its margin eight or more well marked denticles: these extend well down into the line of the symphysis. Suborbital. --This plate is of the same general character as that described in Stenosteus: its lamina however is wider and somewhat differently curved than in the former genus; its anterior arm is straighter and narrower. In the latter portion of the plate the flange which extends inward towards the median line is narrow and flat. Sclerotic Plates. --One of these elements, of which several are present in the fossil, is figured in visceral aspect in PL VI, fig. 3. These plates do not differ strikingly from those. . .
