Excerpt: . . . present mission, we received the imperial commands, signifying his Majestys desire of sending back the prince O-la-pu-tchu-eur, and restoring him to his family: but, if the prince were to return by the route which lies in the direction of the territories of Tse-vang La-pu-tan, Tse-vang La-pu-tan not being at peace with your nation, might possibly engage his western neighbours, the Ho-SA-ke and Ho-la Ho-eur-pa nations, to do the prince some harm. It will not therefore be expedient for him to take that route; he must of necessity take the route through the Russian dominions, and his return will thus be secure. We have been expressly instructed to confer with your Majesty relative to the settlement of this business, in order that, upon our return to our court, we may communicate the result to his Imperial Majesty, and the Prince O-la-pu-tchueur be sent back to you accordingly. The particulars of this rebellion are stated at length in the Histoire de la Chine, by Mailla, vol. xi. p. 65 et seq. : Ptntee-vang is there spoken of under his proper name of Ou-sanKouei, the former being only an assumed title. A-yu-ke Khan said, The father and elder brethren of O-la-pu-tchu-eur are to consult with me on the subject, and as soon as they have come to a final determination, I will acquaint your Excellencies therewith. In conclusion, we observed to A-yu-ke Khan, 1 it is now already some years since we set out upon our present mission. We have at length happily reached our destination, and we have delivered our Emperors imperial edict into the hands of your Majesty. Our principal business here is thus concluded. As soon therefore as the affair of the return of the prince O-la-pu-tchu-eur is arranged, we ought to set out upon our return. A-yu-ke. . . This item ships from La Vergne,TN.
