In May 2006 Georges Processing settled with the department by agreeing to pay more than 1. 2 million to more than 5, 000 employees. Georges also agreed to future compliance. The departments lawsuit against Tyson, which was filed in 2002, is ongoing. The success of the poultry-processing litigation demonstrates the careful balance we must deal with each day. We must weigh the benefits of prompt payment to employees against the benefits of en-hanced penalties against employers. Chairman M.
