There are none of us that have" any just Reason to Glory in the Presence of God, upon account of our Obedience. The Obedience of the most Holy is very imperfect:; and will never be acccpted.buc for the Sake of Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us Wisdom and Righteousness and SancJification, and RedempQ_x tion fion-, and therefore, we must rely only upon his Righteousness and Merits fof Salvation: that according as it is written he that gkrietb, let him glory in the Lord. When cherefore I fay, we are strongly engaged to perform our Duty in such a Manne? as Thave described, that we may thereupon be sure of obtaining Happiness; my Meaning is, that since God hath required, that the Practice of out Duty should have the fore-mentioned Quallifications, we are as strongly obliged, so as to qualify it, as if it was the very Price of Felicity; and if our Deportment is thus qualified, we may firmly depend upon the Faithfulness of God, for the certain Enjoyment of that Happiness which he has promised to Jiicb a Deportment. Let it then be our constant Care to have our Souls possessed with a right Knowledge »f our Duty. Let us diligently consider what Points God has revealed as Objects of Faith, for them it is our Duty to believe: What Precepts he has given us to perform, for them it is our Duty to practise: What Irregularities he has forbidden, and ...
