If the assistant lives out and is away ill, he can claim wages during his absence from work for that cause, but there is some uncertainty as to whether or not the employer can deduct the cost of a substitute. The kind of insurance known as a fidelity guarantee is not uncommon in the grocery trade, more especially for travellers and others who collect money.
