Les traces de ces petites défaillances ne se trouvent qu'à ce moment dans l'œuvre de Troyon, et fort heureusement, dans des morceaux de peu d'importance. Troyon a passé, je crois, la fin de l'été de 1857 en Touraine, comme il en avait coutume en ce temps-là, chez M. L. A la fin de la saison, il a rapporté un bon nombre d'études et d'esquisses qu'il nous a montrées au retour: les Chèvres qui broutent; elles sont dans des plates-bandes, grimpées contre des roses trémières qu'elles saccagent de leur mieux; c'est une merveille de couleur;--Une Foire aux abords d'un village, où sont des figures de paysannes et des animaux;--la Charrette chargée de foin, avec beau cheval blanc qui est en avant;--des Bestiaux en marche, accompagnés d'une figure....
