Of the special inducements offered for booby traps by the shelf above the heads of the passengers, and of the manifold improper usages to be made of the windows to be found between the compartments in some carriages, it is hardly necessary to speak here. We hear a great deal nowadays of the widening gulf between rich and poor, high aud low, of the abolition or debasing of all the old common standing grounds, fairs, rustic games and festivities, and the other institutions of Ye Olden Time; but in third class travelling there is an opportunity given for mixture of classes such as has rarely been possible before. No doubt a great deal of the popularity of third class We are requested to insert the following: --CARTHUSIAN MEDICAL CLUB. It is requested that all those who are entering or have entered the Medical profession, and desire to join the above-named Club--notices of which have appeared in The Carthusian of April and June of this year--will kindly send in their names to A. Keightlcy, Esq. (Hon. Sec), 6, Bedford Place, Russell Square, London, W. C. , on or before October 14th, in order that they may be brought forward for election at the Annual General Meeting of the Club held on October 30th. All old Hodgsonites who left in Under School or were members of any of the School Elevens or Harpies are requested to send 2s. fid. to A. J. Tasscll, Hodgsonites, if they wish to have their names put up. Mr. Edward Backhouse Eastwick, C. B. , the Oriental scholar, and for some time Conservative M.
