(ad Hcsycli. ) a Ideoque id quod tantum faccre priucipibus sacerdotnm jussuin est, qnorum typum Moses et Aaron tenuerunt, omnino decretum est, ut cliorepiscopi vel prenbyteri qui filiorum Aaron gestant figuram, arripere non prassumant. But innumerable instances of this kind might be produced: I shall only therefore add two other passages, which seem very observable, to the enforcement of this discourse. St. Jerome, reprehending the discipline of the Montanists, hath these words; hWith us the bishops do hold the places of the Apostles; with them, a bishop is in the third place: for tliey have for the first rank the patriarchs ofPcpusa in Phrygia; for the second, those whom they call ccnones; so are bishops thrust down into the third, that is, almost the last place; as if thence religion became more stately, if that tchich is first with us be the last with them.
