"Der Sturm" is considered to be one of the great avant guard publications. Published from 1910-1932, this serial was first issued on a weekly basis, then bi-weekly, and monthly starting in 1915. Includes original art prints and illustrations printed lithographically and in offset. First reference to artwork in each issue relates to cover art. Published on July 14, 1910, this issue features a lithographically reproduced drawing by Oskar Kokoschka for his drama "Mörder, Hoffnung der Frauen", on the cover. Contributions by Alfred Döblin on music, "Gespräche mit Kalypso", excerpts from Paul Leppin's novel "Daniel Jesus", an article on the chances for peace with a drawing ("Siegfried Wagner") by Siegfried Pfankuch (Euphorion Verlag), and contributions by Paul Scheerbart, Karl Vogt, and a satire on the the occupation of the Vatican by Minimax, "Kriegsbericht". Two pages of illustrated advertisements at rear, including an announcement of the gallery Fritz Gurlitt, Berlin, for an exhibition featuring works by Böcklin, Leibl, Thoma, Liebermann, and Trübner. Text in German. Cover page with small chips along bottom half of foredge. All pages reinforce with transparent tape at horizontal fold in middle. Light age toning. Overall in very good condition.

Trotz Altersspuren insgesamt durchaus zufriedenstellender Zustand für diese seltene Zeitschrift. --- An original issue of the legendary magazine "Der Sturm" (The Storm) that covered the expressionism movement in Germany. It was founded in Berlin in 1910 by Herwarth Walden and ran weekly until 1914, later monthly, became a quarterly in 1924 until it ceased publication in 1932. Most issues were sent by post, which explains the usual folding crease on the middle of the fragile wooden-paper publication. Particularly in the time before the outbreak of World War I, "Der Sturm" played a crucial role in the French-German exchange of expressionist artists, which led to a special relationship between Berlin and Paris. Regularly, poems and other texts of French and/or French speaking expressionists were published (Guillaume Apollinaire, Blaise Cendrars, etc.). This relationship was renewed after the war despite the hostilities between the two countries caused by the fighting. The magazine also fostered the Galerie "Der Sturm", started by Walden to celebrate its 100th edition, in 1912. The gallery became the focus for Berlin's modern art scene for a decade. Starting with an exhibition of Fauves and Der Blaue Reiter, followed by the introduction in Germany of the Italian Futurists, Cubists and Orphists, the gallery was to exhibit Edvard Munch, Georges Braque, Pablo Picasso, Albert Gleizes, Robert Delaunay, Jean Metzinger, Gino Severini, Jean Arp, Paul Klee, Wassily Kandinsky, and Kurt Schwitters. --- 30 x 41 Cm. 0,15 Kg.
