Some canal facts: In England there are a total of 2,200 miles of canals with 1569 locks, 53 tunnels, 3112 bridges, 37 aqueducts and 74 reservoirs. The canal with the most locks is Caen on the Kennet and Avon Canal with 29. The average depth of a canal is about 1.5 metres and three types of boats can use them, Boats, Narrow Boats and Wide Beam boats (that are restricted to just a few canal systems). I suspect you will be on a narrow boat! The longest is the Grand Union Canal which goes from London to Birmingham and is 137 miles long, it would take 72 hours to traverse. Do not forget to take your Canal Holidays Logbook home with you, hopefully filled in each evening whilst sitting in your canal pub. Enjoy. The book has enough space for several holidays.
