Von Händler/Antiquariat, Brian Cassidy Bookseller at Type Punch Matrix.
(New York): (Museum of Modern Art), (1978). Second printing. Wraps. Very good. 4to. Very good in original color pictorial wraps. Mild soil and wear to edges. Else bright and sound throughout. 181pp. INSCRIBED by Lewitt to first prelim with an original penned drawing: "[drawing] / Sol LeWitt / for Yoko." An important catalogue (designed by the artist) from LeWitt's mid-career MOMA retrospective that helped cement his reputation as a major artist. With essays by Lucy Lippard, Bernice Rose, and Robert Rosenblum, as well as numerous reproductions (both color and B&W), plus reprints of many of LeWitt's writings, this remains a significant document. Given LeWitt and Ono's overlapping aesthetics, as well as their proximity in NYC art circles at the likely time of this inscription, we have trouble imagining another inscribee other than Yoko Ono. Indeed, as both were pioneers of instruction-based art, what is almost certainly a momentous association between two giants of conceptual art, with an original drawing by Lewitt.
