The London Group is an artists' exhibiting society based in London. It was formed in 1913 by an amalgamation of a number of artists groups at that time, notably the Camden Town Group and the Vorticists. In its one hundred year history the Group has elected over 400 members who may have been Surrealists, Abstract painters, Euston Road, Kitchen Sink or St Ives through to contemporary media including video, photography and performance. Members included: Sickert, Wyndham Lewis, Henry Moore, Barbara Hepworth, LS Lowry, David Hockney, Dame Paula Rego. There are a number of publications which record partial histories of the Group, typically from the first fifty years. This is the only book to cover the whole one hundred years of The London Group's existence. There are no illustrations of works by London Group members as the Group's ethos is not to promote one artist above another. In this book the story of the Group and all its members is told from primary research conducted in Tate Archive of exhibition catalogues, documents and press cuttings. The book is broken up into decades and then individual years within the decade giving a clear chronological presentation. Each year records major social, political and economic events, followed by major cultural events and exhibitions, especially those in which London Group members participated, followed by a detailed record of London Group activity for that year. The book has 416 pages, 240x170x27 mm and contains 15 colour images of LG catalogue covers and a large number of b&w photographs of venues where The London Group has exhibited in its one hundred year history. There is also a list of London Group Presidents, a list (with dates) of every exhibition held by the Group and a definitive list of every artist ever elected as a member to The London Group. It is an essential reference book to anyone interested in the history of British art. Paperback, Ausgabe: 1st, Label: The London Group, The London Group, Produktgruppe: Book, Publiziert: 2013, Studio: The London Group, Verkaufsrang: 1051529.
