Hardback. In 1976 and 1977, David Richard Berkowitz's reign of terror crippled New York City. For more than a year the Son of Sam/.44 Caliber Killer launched several vicious attacks which claimed the lives of 6 people and injured 7 more. Berkowitz stated that he had made a pact with the devil, and that he was a soldier for Satan. Further, he proclaimed that his neighbour's dog, "Harvey", had transmitted demonic orders to him, and like a hunter, he would drive each night looking for a "sign to kill." The New York City Police Department launched an around the clock investigation with over 200 police officers working on the case. A break through arose from a parking ticket David Berkowitz received for parking by a fire hgydrant at the time of the Moskowitz murder. David Berkowitz was finally apprehended on August 10, 1977. He pleaded guilty to all charges and was sentenced to 365yrs in prison. In 1979, Berkowitz was attacked by a prisoner and required 56 stitches to close the razor wound to his neck. Eight years later, he was introduced to religion by a fellow inmate. Since that time, David Berkowitz has become a model prisoner who assists disabled inmates with their daily lives. In March of 2002, David Berkowitz informed Governor Pataki that he could find no justifiable reason why he should ever be considered for parole, and that he deserved to be incarcerated for the rest of his life. In July 2002 and again in June of 2004, Berkowitz was denied parole. In this book the reader is offered a unique glimpse into the life of David Berkowitz through the sensational letters written to him. The author offers powerful insight into one of the most infamous criminals in history and raises some serious questions regarding his impact on society today. A book which evokes old memories and explores new possibilities to the question, "Who is David Berkowitz?". Illus. + Map and Source Notes. 363pp. 4to. h/back. From the library of true crime writer, Wilfred Gregg, with his personal b/plate. F. in F. dw. A heavy book which will require additional postage.
