Adventurers searched every point of the compass for the Yellow Metal in the New World. Many mines were found and operated by the church; greed knew no bounds. Natives were baptized and introduced to chains, in that order. Rebellion often befell the priests, and death found them in some distant lonely place. So much wealth was at stake that the church and state quarreled over it. Finally the Robed Ones were called home and forbidden to return to New Sapin. To understand gold is to understand its nature. Being one of the heaviest substances on earth, as well as precious, made it hard to transport it to the king in Europe. The remoteness of the Southwest lent the opportunity for gold to be found one day; only to be hidden the next to keep it "safe." Life, being fregile; many times the gold was never recovered and remains hidden to this day. After the Gadsen Purchase, the lands south of the Gila River fell into the hands of the United States. the influx of people put the Apache Indians on edge; the Southwest was at war. The native people were trying to hold onto the lifestyle they followed from time beginning. the Whites wanted to subdue the earth and reap its harvest. Riches were out there to be found. Gold, silver, and copper mines were opened. Wealth was abundant to a lucky few, or unlucky as the case might be. Into this caldrone rode men of all these cultures, all believing in their destiny, which required them to forge a relationship based on need; a need for God, gold and glory. These needs so finely interwoven at times were almost one, yet, at other times come unwove to strangle the unsuspecting. This is a fictional account of how the interaction between the Indians, Mexicans and Anglos might have been. Very few records were kept by the players; so much room is left for speculation.
