In 1936 Gander was a flag-stop on the railway, but an international plan for a flying boat service (and weather station support) was in the works. When war broke out in 1939 the aviation role of Gander began to increase in proportion. This is that story - up to 1988. It is largely a story of aviation but there are plenty of ancilliary services. Scouts, golf.singing. and churches also get mentioned. Learn more about : Goose Bay, the Concorde, Joey Smallwood & Confederation, the dole, Botwood, Cobb's Camp, Roy Lane, Banting Memorial Hospital, and Harbour Grace. A few b/w photographs assist text.
