Hamilton is a progressive rural community situated on the perimeter of Malpeque Bay, Prince County, Prince Edward Island. The name Hamilton was adopted in 1869 to replace the names Oyster Cove and Shipyard, two adjacent communities which dated from the time of the early British settlers. Hamilton has a long history, being in an area which was one of the earliest on the island to be settled under British regime. This settlement of Scottish immigrants began in 1770, the year that Walter Patterson, the first govenor of Prince Edward Island, took up residence in the new colony. Pathways to the Present provides a perspective of Hamilton which has not been available before now. It chronicles the development of the community from its early days to recent times. Pathways to the Present protrays the establishment and evolution of economic enterprises and social structures and delineates the genealogies of families past and present.
