As we approach the third millennium, who among us is not searching for ways to better understand our challenging lives? The winds are attended by several tales which have been adapted from existing historical accounts, as in "Columba and the Druid," or based on old legends, as in "Rory the Turbulent." The majority, though based on Gaelic myth, are fictional. If, after reading this, you should have a desire to determine the direction and color of the winds, and to consider their influences and effects, then you may be following in the footsteps of the ancient Gaelic prophets and poets by participating in a tradition, that is, in itself, a living art form, one as beautiful as the most intricate of Celtic knots, and one as mysterious as the ancient spiral symbols. For though we sometimes explore these matters to gain insight into the distant past, we often come away with a more balanced perception of ourselves.
