This simply, yet elegantly designed book features both well established and emerging artists from various families within Santa Clara Pueblo. Adjacent to each portrait is an example of the artist's pottery, along with a statement by the artist. The pottery shown exemplifies the incredible range of styles and designs that have evolved over the past century. Through his portraits, the author/photographer, Neil Chapman, provides a glimpse into the lives of a quiet people's dignity and pride--pride in their craftsmanship and pride in their traditions. The artists' statements echo this as well.
