This anecdotal, county-by-county history of the courts and judges of rural Nevada is dated June, 1995, inscribed "To Senator Kathy Augustine" and signed by the author Clarence Clifton "Cliff" Young (1922-2016), past president of the National Wildlife Federation and former U.S. Congressman for Nevada, who had been elected to the Nevada Supreme Court in 1984. This book was purchased at the Kathy Augustine estate auction in Las Vegas June 23, 2007. Kathy Augustine, 50, was the first woman to hold the elected office of Nevada state controller and was seeking vindication by campaigning for re-election to that office when she was found dead at home on July 11, 2006. Augustine had been impeached, tried and convicted by the state Senate in 2004 for admitted violations of state ethics laws, was censured and fined a record $15,000 by the state Ethics Commission but allowed to retain her office. Kathy Augustine's fourth husband, Chaz Higgs, went on trial in Reno, Nev. June 18, 2007 and was convicted June 29 of the murder of Kathy Augustine by injection of the powerful muscle relaxant succinylcholine. A presumed unique signed association copy, linking two significant Nevada historical & political figures.
