More than 200 color plates, full page or half page, reproducing posters that advertised newspapers in the 19th and early 20th centuries. Most of the posters promote French, German, Italian and British publications. A few American dailies also are included. Among the scores of artists represented are Jules Cheret, Leonetto Capiello, E. Charle Lucas and Louis J. Rhead. Front cover shows "La Nymphomane," a young woman in a tight-fitting Gay 90s gown, hat and boa, tossing newspaper pages from atop a chimney to advertise Le Journal. This hard to find catalog was compiled and rather playfully annotated by Marc Davidson to showcase the poster collection that he and his father, the late Herbert M. "Tippen" Davidson Jr., amassed for the Daytona Beach News-Journal over a 30-year period. Four generations of the Davidson family were majority owners of the News-Journal for about 80 years. Circa 2004, the poster collection became tied up in litigation between the Davidsons and Cox Newspapers, a former co-owner of the paper. Cox claimed the Davidsons wasted millions of the newspaper's profits on various cultural endeavors, including the poster collection. A federal judge later awarded the poster collection to Cox. Despite appeals, the posters eventually were taken out of the News-Journal offices and transferred to ownership by Cox Newspapers. As of 2017, the location of the collection has not been disclosed.
