`Change and Challenge is an historical record of the efforts of the common people to develop the area of the present Municipality of Canterbury since the foundation of the N.S.W. colony. Canterbury's colonial era began with the land grants dating from 1793 and by 1841 some eighty settlers had been given grants covering the municipal area. In 1841 a subdivision of the Campbell estate heralded the first carving up process mainly into smaller farms. This volume deals with the resultant social, political and economic developments of the period 1788 - 1979 with separate chapters devoted to special areas such as public services, education, religious movements, sport and industries. BOOK DETAILS: The contents are clean, tight and sound throughout. The boards are clean and unmarked, with only minimal wear. The lettering on the spine is clear and bright. The dust wrapper is not price clipped, has one or two closed (repaired) tears otheerwise shows only minor shelf-wear. and some chipping to the extremities. .Mild page tanning to the pages. Tanning (or browning) is often present in older books and is the result of the paper ageing. Some mild foxing is present within the book. No signs of previous ownership (no previous ownership inscriptions). A very good copy. Illustrated. 412pp. (incl. index). The unpacked weight of this book is approx. 995g.
