But not having an opponent, the setting and solving of problems seemed to be an attractive alternative. Whyatt's chess interest starts around 1932-33. His interest in chess continued through the war and later became the president of the Australian Chess Problem Club. His first published problem appeared in the Melbourne Leader in 1945. From 1945 through 1947 his problems only appeared in that news paper. From 1947-1952 there is a large gap in Whyatt's career for problem setting, broken only by a problem published in the The Hindu. He had his first problem in the Weekly Times in 1952. There was a composing tourney running then for which Alex Goldstein was the judge which developed into strong friendship. He won his first prize in The Hindu 1953. He went on to joint the British Chess Problem Society and setting a number of problems through out his life. Condition: A very good to fine copy.
