John Strecche was a Canon of Kenilworth Priory and would have met King Henry V there and in the King's favorite Castle of Kenilworth. Strecche would have heard first hand accounts of the King's Deeds from his Nobles, and Knights returning from the Battlefields of France. These he recorded in a manuscript of English History for his students in the Priory, about 1425. This book examines his beliefs, piety, and prejudices, by reference to his surviving manuscripts and to the legends of history that he read about. It repeoples the remains of his Abbey in Kenilworth and the more than eight hundred ruined abbeys built to a similar plan throughout the British Isles. While appealing to those interested in history, it is fully referenced and will be of value to students of history, who will find that many of the author's researches have not been published before. There are also extracts from texts not easily available, such as Morested's 'Fair Book of Surgery' and Castletion's Chronicle.
