An immaculate production from the early days of Simon Lawrence's Fleece Press, printed for him at Whittington. Superbly printed engravings, set off to full advantage in this beautiful and well-balanced deluxe edition. This copy marked 'out of series' but has all the attributes of the deluxe edition limitation of 25 with no variant points. A popular and sought-after early Fleece Press title. From writing her first Diary in 1950, Enid Wilson contributed regular fortnightly pieces for The Guardian. Edward Stamp and Kathleen Lindsley each engraved ten illustrations to selected Diaries. Copy xxxiii of 50 (250) in half-crimson Oasis over Fabriano 'Roma' red paper-covered boards, paper label with image of Chinese paper to front board, gilt titling to backstrip, with the second volume bound to a similar design but with half grey cloth rather than Oasis and no backstrip title, additional plain black card folder containing another paper construction, all in a tan paper-covered slipcase with cloth panels to head and foot. The papers, some of them stunning and several of them really 'paper constructions' rather than plain sheets, are shown to great effect in this lavish Whittington production. The half-leather special edition, as here, is scarce and adds significantly more magnificence, scale and variety to the book. Fine with Fine second volume of specimens, Very Good paper folder (an extra old crease from incorrect folding, specimen within unaffected), Fine slipcase.
