Edited by Wendy and Allan Scarfe, this interesting book written by Gilbert Giles Roper (1905-1974) is the biography of Percy Brookfield, English-born (1878) Australian merchant seaman, prospector, Broken Hill union official, socialist political activist, New South Wales Labor politician and founder of the Independent Labor Party. While returning to Adelaide en route to Sydney from Broken Hill on the night of 21 March, 1921, Percy Brookfield's train stopped at Riverton Station for meals. While there a disturbed Russian journalist, Koorman Tomayiff, opened fire with a pistol hitting three people. Brookfield tackled the shooter, being mortally shot in the process.
