Of historical interest, this 1992 publication was produced in the wake of the demonstrations that overturned the Clause 28 ruling of Margaret Thatcher's government which had stipulated that the subject of homosexuality should not be referred to in schools in a positive light. The booklet caused controversy, receiving both congratulatory reviews and damning condemnations. The then politician Dr Rhodes Boyson expressed one view held both by Christians and some non-Christians that "the teaching of AIDS and homosexuality in schools could make it a fashion... Sex education must be linked with the family and not homosexual activities". The booklet was produced in response to the dozens of inquiry letters from school-aged children and students received weekly at the Lesbian and Gay Christian Movement's head office. Some were apparently from pupils who had chosen to do a project on this topic for their 16+ or 18+ examinations in Religious Education or in Social Studies; other letters were from young people from Christian backgrounds who were possibly thinking about their own sexual orientation. The 6-page A4-sized booklet, illustrated with cartoon-style line-drawings, sets out to answer the recurring questions from these letters, and gives a description of each Christian denomination's position on the issue. It also offers questions and discussion points suitable for use in classrooms or youth groups, and ends with a comprehensive bibliography plus a contact list for obtaining further information, advice and counselling.
